However, there isn&#8217;t enough time to cover them all. There will be the usual ball walk through on the Monday and Wednesday preceeding the ball.<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>Quarries\u2019 Jig<\/b><br \/>Book XXXVI&nbsp; No. 3<br \/>(Jig)<\/p>\n<p>1\u20134&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st couple set to each other and cast off one place. 2nd couple step up on bars 3-4.<\/p>\n<p>5\u20138&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st couple dance round their first corners passing them by the left to finish in second place on opposite sides of the dance.<\/p>\n<p>9\u201316&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st man dances a reel of three across the dance with 2nd couple giving left shoulder to 2nd man, while 1st woman dances a reel of three across the dance with 3rd couple giving left shoulders to 3rd woman. The corners dance 8-bar reels, but, on the last two steps, 1st couple turn with the left hand half-way round to face first corners.<\/p>\n<p>17\u201318&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st couple change places with first corners giving right hands while second corners set.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>19\u201320&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First corners change places diagonally giving left hands while the other dancers dance clockwise round the outside to the next corner position.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>21\u201324&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Repeat bars 17-20 from new positions. Dancers in the middle change places with those in first corner positions giving right hands while those in second corner positions set (2 bars). Those now in the middle (3rd man and 2nd woman) change places diagonally giving left hands while the other four dancers dance clockwise round the outside to the next corner position.<\/p>\n<p>25\u201328&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Repeat bars 17-20 from new positions except that, on bars 27-28, 1st couple who are now in the middle, turn with the left hands to second place on opposite sides.<\/p>\n<p>29\u201330&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples, joining nearer hands, set on the sides.<\/p>\n<p>31\u201332&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st couple, giving right hands, cross to own sides.<\/p>\n<p>Repeat, having passed a couple.<\/p>\n<p>Inscribed to Avril and David Quarrie, teachers and active members of the Chicago Branch and the Loch Michigan S.C.D. At end of bar 18, first corners are facing each other in middle of &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; set (as in \u201ccorners\u2019 chain\u201d).<br \/>N.B.&nbsp;&nbsp; On bars 17-18, changing place occurs only on the diagonal from 1st man\u2019s to 3rd woman\u2019s place.<\/p>\n<p><b>THE DUNDEE WHALER<\/b><br \/>The Ormskirk Scottish Dances by Roy Clowes<br \/>Strathspey.&nbsp;&nbsp; Four Couple Longways Set<\/p>\n<p>1\u20138&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Second and fourth couples dance petronella, finishing in partner\u2019s place.<\/p>\n<p>9\u201316&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First and second couples; third and fourth couples dance ladies\u2019 chain.<\/p>\n<p>17\u201324&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First and third couples dance petronella, finishing in partner\u2019s place.<\/p>\n<p>25\u201326&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First lady changes place with second man, giving left hands.<\/p>\n<p>27\u201328&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First lady changes place with third lady and first man changes place with second lady, giving right hands.<\/p>\n<p>29\u201330&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First lady changes place with fourth man, and first man changes place with third man, giving left hands.<\/p>\n<p>31\u201332&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First man changes places with fourth lady, giving right hands.<\/p>\n<p>Repeat from new places.<\/p>\n<p>Tune:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Timor the Tartar&nbsp; (Kerr\u2019s Collection)<\/p>\n<p>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<br \/>Pasted into the Memorial Edition of The Ormskirk Scottish Dances, is the following note by Bob Donald who was responsible for collating, printing and distributing the book after Roy Clowes\u2019 death and who had detailed knowledge of the devisor\u2019s intentions :<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;1.&nbsp; The Dundee Whaler <br \/>&nbsp;Bars 17-24:&nbsp; The question posed here is whether in this sequence of changes across the dance, the dancers would slip into place or turn with a polite turn.&nbsp; The answer is quite unequivocal, the dancers SLIP into place.<br \/>The reason is that in this figure, Roy is representing the tacking to and from of the ship and <br \/>therefore the line followed by the leading dancers to the foot of the set has sharp changes of direction just as the ship would have.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Flight of the Falcon<\/b><br \/>Anniversary Tensome by Barry Priddey<br \/>a 32-bar Jig for 3 couples<\/p>\n<p>1\u20134&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st couple set and cast a place, 2nd couple step up on bars 3-4.<\/p>\n<p>5\u20138&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st couple turn with left hands one and a quarter times so that 1st  man finishes facing 3rd lady and 1st lady finishes behind him and ready  to follow him.<\/p>\n<p>9\u201316&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st man followed by his  partner, begins to dance a diagonal \u201creel of three\u201d with 1st corners. At  the end of bar 10 having passed 3rd lady by the right, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1st man and  1st lady each turn \u201cright about\u201d to continue the reel with 1st lady  leading, then at the end of bar 14, having passed 3rd lady by the left,  they each turn \u201cleft about\u201d to complete the reel with 1st man leading.<\/p>\n<p>17\u201324&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;  1st man followed by his partner, begins to dance a diagonal \u201creel of  three\u201d with 2nd corners.
