Warmup Circle Dance

A 32 bar round the room dance for 1 couple

1 – 4     Facing partner, dance past partner and turn the next person with the right hand and pass your partner back to original places facing the person on who isn’t your partner.

5 – 8     Dance past the person you are facing and turn the next person with the right hand and pass that same person back to original places facing your partner.

9 – 12      Turn partner with the right hand
13 – 16     Turn partner with the left hand, finish facing the person on the other side (not your partner)

17 – 18    Turn the new person (new partner) with the right hand ¾ times into allemande hold facing counter-clockwise.
19 – 20    Allemande around the circle
21 – 24    Let go of left hands, woman crosses in front of the man and continue turning to finish facing the centre of the circle. Man will be on the left, woman on the right.

25 – 32    All circle round and back

Scarborough Castle
32 bar Strathspey for three couples in a four couple longwise set

1 – 8     1st and 2nd couples dance the knot. 1st couple finish facing first corners

9 – 12    1st couple and first corners dance corner pass and turn. 1st couple pass right shoulder in the middle to face second corners.

13 – 16    1st couple and second corners dance corner pass and turn. 1st couple, passing right shoulders to cross over to own sides.

17 – 20    2nd, 1st and 3rd couples set, then, giving right hand to partner, cross over to change places

21 – 24    2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance six hands round to the left three-quarters of the way, finish facing in lines across the dance, men facing down and women facing up.

25 – 28    All set, then, giving left hand to partner cross up and down the dance to change places.

29 – 32    All dance six hands round to the right three-quarters of the way, finishing in order 2, 1, 3 on own sides.

Mo’ili’ili Jig
32 bar jig for three couples

1 – 4    1st couple turn once round by the right hand, returning to place

5 – 8    1st and 2nd couples dance right hands across once round, return to place with 1st lady facing out.

9 – 16    1st lady followed by her partner casts round 2nd lady, crosses up through first man’s place, casts off round 2nd man and crosses to second place, own side facing down. 1st man ends in second place, own side facing down. 2nd couple step up on bars 16 and 16 and face down.

17 – 24    2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance reels of three on their own sides, 1st couple giving right shoulders to 3rd couples to begin. 3rd couple finish the reels facing up.

25 – 28    1st and 3rd couple dance right hands across once round.

29 – 32    1st and 2nd ladies and 1st and 2nd men turn by the left hands once round. 1st couple ends in second place ready to begin again.

Mo’ili’ili (pronounced mo-eelee-eelee) is the neighborhood in Honolulu, Hawaii, where Mary and David taught Scottish Country Dance for many years.

24-bar reel for two couples in a four couple longwise set

1 – 8    1st and 2nd couples dance four hands round and back.

9 – 16    1st couple lead down the middle and up, finishing in the middle of the set facing up. 2nd couple step in.

17 – 24    1st and 2nd couples dance an allemande

Repeat, having passed a couple.

16-bar jig for one couple facing another in a round-the-room formation. Each man has his partner on his right

1 – 8    All couples, joining nearer hands, advance and retire, twice.
9 – 10    All couples clap hands three times
11 – 12    All couple beat with the heel three times.
13 – 16    All couples advance, passing the person opposite by the right, to meet another couple

32-bar reel for three couples in a four couple longwise set

1 – 4     1st couple set and cast off two places. 2nd and 3rd couple step up on bars 3-4.
5 – 8     1st couple set and cast up to first place, 2nd and 3rd couples step down on bars 7-8.
9 – 16    1st couple lead down the middle and up and cast off one place to face first corners. 2nd couple step up on bars 15-16
17 – 24    1st couple set to and turn corners to finish between them facing first corners
25 – 30    2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance reels of three on the sides. 1st couple pass first corners by the left to begin
31 – 32    1st couple, giving right hands, cross over to second place on own sides.

1 – 4    1st couple, giving right hands, cross over and cast off one place. 2nd couple step up on bars 3-4.
5 – 8    1st and 3rd couples dance right hands across halfway round.
9 – 12    1st couple set twice
13 – 16    3rd and 1st couples dance half rights and lefts, 1st couple finish facing first corners.
17 – 24    1st couple set to and turn corners to finish between them facing first corners.
25 – 30    2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance reels of three on the sides, 1st couple pass first corners by the left to begin.
31 – 32    1st couple, giving right hands, cross over to second place on own sides.

9 – 16    Dancer 5 dances a right shoulder reel of three with dancers 1 and 9. Dancers 2, 3 and 6 dance right hands across and back. Dancers 4, 7 and 8 dance right hands across and back.

17 – 24    Dancer 5 dances a left shoulder reel of three with dancers 3 and 7. Dancers 1, 2 and 4 dance right hands across and back. Dancers 6, 8 and 9 dance right hands across and back.
